Coquille de glace

Coquille de glace belongs to Glacier Azur's fashinating photo collection and captures the unequalled beauty of the largest glacier in France, Mer de Glace, located in La Vallée Blanche (Chamonix).

Through a series of images, the collection showcases the natural formations within the glacier’s depths, illuminated by the shimmering sunlight penetrating the icy landscape. Beyond its beauty, however, the collection also serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of human activities on the environment. Mer de Glace is undergoing rapid transformation due to climate change, losing significant length and thickness each year. These photographs stand as a testament to the fragile balance of our planet's ecosystems.

Glacier Azur invites viewers to contemplate both the awe-inspiring majesty of nature and the urgent need for environmental stewardship in the face of these existential challenges.

The name Coquille de glace is derived from the mantle shell that seems to emerge from this wonderful ice formation with the right light.
