André Navez’s work with cement began a little over twenty years ago. This material interests him in many ways: the different possible grain sizes, the density of the mixture, its reaction to humidity, and ultimately, its extreme mattness and its way of capturing light.
In his process, he attaches great importance to the gesture, like a breath, attentive to the drying, a true revealer.
His surfaces are tinted in the mass and also undergo, “while fresh,” numerous sprays, explorations of intensity, rhythm, and light. He considers his surfaces as having their own life, their own reality: they are not images.
His intervention aims to be discreet.
André Navez also likes to juxtapose surfaces that resonate with each other. One needs the other to exist.
