Joelle Picquet : Textile art combines tradition and creativity.

In a few words, who are you?

In a few words, I am first and foremost a woman who has dedicated many years to nurturing life by working in maternity. My artistic journey is inspired by this process, aiming to share life and bring colors to the world.

I draw these colors and this life through travels in India, Africa, Brazil, exploring new skills, materials, fabrics, and stories. Another wonderful source of creativity for me is the Flea Market in Brussels (Place du Jeu de Balles), where I give new life to found materials and objects.

Lastly, the discovery of India and indigo opened another door, offering a fascinating blue in its infinite depth, a source of peace in this tumultuous world.

If we take René Magritte's definition that "to be surrealist is to banish from the mind the already seen and seek the not yet seen," you are in the midst of surrealism. What does surrealism mean to you?

Regarding surrealism, it means expressing our thoughts in the absence of all reason and social control, according to René Magritte's definition. Surrealism is important as it allows us to create our own interpretation of reality.
