Ambohimanga 1

This painting was inspired by a wall of the royal palace of Ambohimanga, just outside Antananarivo in Madagascar. It is an ancient wall, and I wanted to capture its rugged surface. People love looking at the painting's texture, made with tissue paper, sand, and glass bead gel. Layers of transparent paint enhance the subtlety of the work.
